Not SO CEO - Chris Graner
Why ''Not So CEO''?
I chose the self-appointed title of Not So CEO™ for a number of reasons. Basically, it seems the title of CEO has become synonymous with scandal, exploitation and greed. That's just not me, so I created a title to underscore my belief that Americans, and people in general, are ready for a change in corporate leadership philosophies and actions.
As I get more time, I'll discuss the rationale here and on the notsoceo.com blog. My hope is to find ways to make a difference through Motorstats.
About Me
The Standard Stuff
I was born and raised a 3rd generation native of Colorado Springs, Colorado. I have lived in Durham, North Carolina since 1999. I am an only child with a ton of sibling–like friends. I have degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Financial Engineering from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
My Passion
I have a strong passion to race cars and/or have a career in motorsports.
Have I Ever Raced?
Nope, I have not raced but I have driven a race car. I received a "driving experience" gift certificate in 2003. I took my laps at, the now closed, Pikes Peak International Raceway. The instructors let you drive fairly fast but you can't push the car – too much liability. During the last session, I realized the entire time I had been driving with one hand on the wheel and one on the shifter. At least I was comfortable in the car, right?
What If I Can't Drive Myself Outta' Wet Paper Bag?
Then I'll stick to the lower divisions or find other ways to work in motorsports. Don't get me wrong, I hope to do well, but first things first - I need to start driving.
Interesting Tidbits
Many of my direct ancestors have been in this country since the 1600s - not including a small amount of Native Indian blood. My mother enjoys genealogy and always has a new story. Here are some of my favorite highlights:
- My 7th Great (that means seven greats) Grandfather, Stephen Harris, born in Hanover County, VA in the early 1700's was a professional driver – wagon driver that is. He was hired for the Braddock campaign to capture Fort Duquesne during the French and Indian War. A 23 year–old volunteer by the name of George Washington was also part of the campaign.
- I descend from the Van Tassel family which allowed a Hessian soldier to be buried in their town cemetary. The soldier had suffered a fatal blow to the head from a cannonball during a battle in the Revolutionary War. Legend was the ghost of the soldier roamed the roads. Washington Irving was later inspired to write about the folklore of the Hessian Headless Horseman in "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow."
- My 8th Great Grandfather, Adam Sherrill "The Pioneer," is considered one of the first settlers on the banks of the Catawba River. The town of Sherrill's Ford, North Carolina bears his name.
- There's more…I'll add it when I have time.
